MEDICAL CARE MANAGER

Job Description:
 
The Medical Care Manager is responsible for overseeing the health and welfare of the cats and kittens in the shelter as well as those in foster care. Manage the medical treatments and maintain medical supplies; schedule veterinary visits, medical procedures, and spays/neuters;  perform intake exams, vaccines and de-worming.

Will also be responsible for training and supervising the staff & volunteers on the Medical Team (incl. cleaning staff) and working with the Shelter Manager to schedule the Med Team. Provides advice for adopters.

 
Will maintain/update shelter database records and provide monthly reports for review by the Board of Directors and other supportive committees as needed.
 
Job Requirements:
 
2 to 4 years’ experience as a veterinary assistant or RVT and/or working with a pet-rescue adoption shelter.
Prefer experience with shelter medicine and protocols.
 
You will be working closely with our Veterinary Partners to maintain the health of all the shelter & foster cats and kittens so you need to have some working knowledge of feline health issues and treatment of same.
Must be able to handle feral or fractious cats safely and in a humane manner & all cats and kittens with fear free techniques.
Work with and manage staff in a professional manner.
 
Communicate effectively needed instructions to non-medical volunteers and staff.

Feline Shelter Attendant

The Homeless Animal Rescue Team is looking for a part-time team member to work the morning shifts as a Feline Shelter Attendant.
Your responsibilities will primarily involve feeding and medicating the cats within our shelter.
This is one of the most crucial roles in our shelter; in addition to feeding and medicating, you will be tasked with observing and reporting any unusual symptoms or behaviors that may be indicative of a medical or behavioral problem.
The morning shift begins at 6am in our main shelter by feeding and medicating all cats and kittens, some cats will get their medications in their foods, so it's important to monitor the cats. You will finish feeding and medicating in the Observation building last, since we occasionally have cats being quarantined in that building.

This is a part-time position.
Days required: Wednesday, Saturday, & Sunday. With the possibility of additional days if interested. Shift begins at 6am

Job Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Feed cats & kittens wet food, including cats on a special veterinary prescribed diet
  • Freshen up dry food in the cats' rooms
  • Walkthrough shelter & monitor health, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Restock food supply (ability to lift 40lbs)
  • Administer medications to the correct cats; ability to distinguish cats apart
  • Read Medical Sheets and follow written instructions
  • Attend weekly/monthly staff meetings for updates on cats' health conditions
  • Observe and report daily on cats' symptoms or behavior that may be indicative of a medical or behavioral problem
  • Stay current on daily Shelter Updates. Add any necessary notes to update. Ability and willingness to use GoogleDocs
  • Help update weekly Medical Sheet. Experience with Microsoft Excel required.
  • Monitor and inform Medical Director and/or General Manager of low stock of medications and food supplies
Medical Skills / Experience Required:
  • Mixing pills in wet food / pilling a cat
Experience Administering -
  • Liquid medications
  • Eye ointments / drops
  • Transdermal medication
  • Subcutaneous fluids
  • Ointments on body
  • Injections
  • Willingness to learn new medical treatments, be trained, and/or assist our Medical Director
You must be comfortable working with FIV+ and FeLV+ cats, feral and/or semi feral cats, temperamental and/or cats with behavioral issues. You must be comfortable around cats and not allergic for your own health and safety to be considered for this position.
Volunteer cleaners

The Homeless Animal Rescue Team is looking for a new member to join our Clean Team! We are seeking a motivated individual who is available to work a morning cleaning shift. You will work as part of the HART team to keep our cat rooms fresh, sanitary, and orderly to help keep our kitties healthy and happy!
A cleaning shift would begin at 8 am and may take around 3 to 4 hours based on your number of rooms and duties.  We're looking to hire multiple individuals with flexible schedules.

HART is a free-roaming and cage-free shelter, therefore our cleaners must work in close proximity to cats and kittens. Our furry friends are very curious and enjoy interacting with our cleaners.
You must be comfortable around cats and not allergic for your own health and safety to be considered for this position. A cat-friendly candidate is a must.
